Résumé :
|
A half-ruined merchant lives in the country with his son and his three daughters. One of his daughters, Belle, is exploited and maltreated by the other two, who are selfish and spiteful. One day, the merchant loses his way in a forest and finds himself in a strange castle. He picks a rose for his daughter Belle, causing the castle's owner to appear a monster, half human, half beast. The creature says the merchant will die unless he sends his daughter Belle to him. After the merchant has related this story to his daughters, Belle secretly sets out for the castle to save her father. Whilst she is at first shocked by the creature's appearance, she soon develops as affection for him. However, she remains adamant that she can never be his wife.
