The writer Robert Dulau and photographer Gisinger explored the surrounding area of Madurai to retrace the steps of the old merchant-builders who erected remarkable palatial houses in the villages of the south of India. This book would like to pay homage to these creations and to the inventiveness that animated these Tamil builders throughout on entire century from 1850 to 1950.
