Dans la Chine des années 1990, à Shanghai, l’inspecteur Chen Cao et son adjoint Yu Guangming enquêtent sur l’assassinat de Guan Hongying, jeune « héroïne du peuple », fonctionnaire modèle et membre respectée du Parti. Mais derrière l’image officielle se cachent des secrets intimes et des contradictions politiques. L’enquête plonge Chen dans les méandres du système communiste, où vérité, corruption et idéologie s’affrontent. Ce premier volet de la série mêle roman policier, fresque sociale et réflexion sur la Chine post-maoïste.
Set in 1990s Shanghai, Death of a Red Heroine follows Inspector Chen Cao and Sergeant Yu Guangming as they investigate the murder of Guan Hongying, a young “people’s heroine,” model worker, and respected Party member. Beneath her official image, however, lie hidden secrets and political contradictions. The investigation drags Chen deep into the complexities of the Communist system, where truth, corruption, and ideology collide. This first volume of the series blends detective fiction, social portrait, and reflection on post-Maoist China. |
