In Homo disparitus (originally The World Without Us), Alan Weisman envisions a world suddenly left without humans. Drawing from interviews with experts (climatologists, botanists, geographers, architects, etc.) and real-world examples like the forests around Chernobyl or abandoned cities, he explores how the Earth would rebound: vegetation would rapidly reclaim space, atmospheric CO₂ levels would return to pre-industrial norms in a few centuries, and only some underground structures would survive over millennia |
